Early on it was decided that it would be easier if this was an actual experiment and a request for proposals was put out to faculty. This helped gauge the interest for the idea. For the accepted proposals a stipend was offered to ease the stress of collecting the additional information.
Early assumptions were that the device wouldn’t be used in class or would be too difficult to use and that students wouldn’t interact with it for educational purposes. But over the years of the initiative students did use their device for class. Faculty did find ways to integrated into the classwork. Students did like the overall experience with it and used it for class activities. Many faculty said they were comfortable using the new digital technology and were interested in finding new ways to use it in and out of class. ACU produced several detailed reports on the impact of the Connected initiative.
